Kangaroo Island, Australia
For obvious reasons, Captain Cook gave the appellations to Botany Bay, Mount Warning, and Cape Tribulation. And Matthew Flinders properly named Kangaroo Island. But the simple name of Kangaroo Island does not give any indication of the abundance of beauty, the charm of the engaging locals, and the colorful treasures of wildlife and birds. For wildlife enthusiasts, families, or honeymooners, it is a special place indeed.
Whether it's a private dinner in a sheep-shearing shed, wildlife spotting of wallabies, echidnas, and the rare Cape Barren Geese, visits to local honey farmers, artists, and winemakers, or the scenery of wilderness highlights like Flinders Chase National Park, Kangaroo Island is sensational.
And then a surprise lunch in a tent with my Brownell colleagues; great food, outstanding wine from Islander Estates, and wildlife in the wild with our guide, Craig Wickham, of Exceptional Kangaroo Island.

Competing for my attention were the view and the sunken pit with open fire. I was overwhelmed with happiness in this architectural masterpiece designed by Ian Hannaford. He raised his own family here, and now his grown children, Nick and Rachel, run Lifetime Private Retreats and Hannaford & Sachs.
